General Practitioners

Dr Shah Awang

Dr Awang has a number of years experience working in General Practice, Skin and Medical Cosmetics.

His clinical interests include skin cancer checks and management, acne and scarring management, treatments for ant-wrinkles, crows feet, lip enhancements, Dermal Fillers and Frown lines.

He has a Diploma in Dermatology and a Certificate of Dermoscopy and Skin Cancer.
Dr Awang works at both our Mernda Village Medical Centre and Laurimar Medical Centre.

Dr Saty Bhat


Dr Bhat trained and qualified as a Surgeon before training and working as a GP in the UK. He moved to Australia in 2009. His interests are Minor Surgery, skin diseases including moles and skin cancer, wound management, men’s health, Ear Nose and Throat conditions, contraception (Implanon), gastroenterology and chronic disease management (high blood pressure, diabetes, etc). He has currently taken a break from clinical consulting to spend time developing and leading the two medical centres at Mernda and Laurimar. He plans to start consulting one or two days a week in October 2016 again.

Dr Manasi Deshpande


Manasi graduated from medical school in India in 2002. She migrated to the UK and trained in a broad range of hospital specialties before qualifying as a GP in 2012. She joined our team here in Australia in October 2013. Her Interests are Diabetes, Cardiovascular Risk Management and Women’s and Children’s Health. Manasi also offers the full range of Family Planning Procedures at Mernda Village Medical.

Dr Irina Fast

Dr Irina Fast joined the practice from Oct 2015.

Practicing in all aspects of general practice, with a particular interest in Women’s, Paediatric and Mental Health.

Dr Bimal Shrestha


From a primary school teacher in Nepal to a GP in Australia, Dr Shrestha’s career has spanned over three continents.

After completing medical school in 2002, he qualified as a Surgeon in the UK prior to training and working there as a GP. His interests include minor surgery, skin disease & wound management and chronic disease management. He also has an interest in the use of audio-visual aids in the practice of Medicine and is a Clinical Supervisor for medical students from Melbourne University who attend the practice as part of their training.

Dr Seng-Hui Tan


Dr Seng Hui Tan started working with us in 2015. She is interested in Women’s health, Child Health and Chronic Disease management.

Dr Ashleigh Jenkins


Dr Jenkins graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2013 (MBBS) and is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP), after having grown up in Mernda.

She completed her medical training in community based practices across Northern Tasmania at the Launceston General Hospital, Longford Medical Practice, Launceston Medical Centre and Family Planning Tasmania.
She currently still works with Family Planning Victoria.

She completed postgraduate studies having obtained a Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RANZCOG), Diploma in Child Health (DCH) and Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health (FPAA).

She has a great depth of experience in helping women and children with their health needs. She enjoys procedural medicine and having worked in a semi-rural setting is confident in a range of procedures, including IUD and contraceptive implants, ingrown toenail removals, immunisations and minor skin procedures.

Dr Jenkins looks forward to being able to assist you and your family with your health needs.

Dr Mirenda Shakya

MBBS, MRCGP (2009, UK), FRACGP (AUS) , DFSRH (2014)

Dr Shakya graduated in 2002. She completed her post graduation to specialise as a GP in the UK. She had been working as a GP for 6 years in the UK before moving to Melbourne. She has special interest in women’s health, child health, chronic disease management including diabetes, asthma, copd, hypertension, heart disease and mental health. Outside work, she enjoys song writing, reading and spending time with family.

Dr Hany Danial


Dr Hany Danial qualified from the University of Minia, Egypt, in 2004. He started his training in Urology and worked in hospitals before changing his career to General Practice and family medicine.

Hany moved to Australia in 2008 where he started working in Diabetes prevention programs in Sydney. He then worked as a General Practitioner for 7 years in Sydney. Hany gained his RACGP fellowship in 2017 and subsequently moved to Melbourne.

Hany is fluent in English and Arabic languages.

Areas of Interest: Preventative medicine (Diabetes care/Cardiovascular diseases), Skin cancer medicine (follow up of moles/excision of skin Cancers /General skin disorders), Men’s health and Ear nose and Throat disorders

Dr Michelle Hooi


Dr Michelle Hooi graduated from The University of Tasmania and has worked in multiple major metropolitan hospitals including Austin Hospital, Mercy Hospital for Women, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Queensland Children’s Hospital and Royal Hobart Hospital.

She has recently completed the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Diploma and the Diploma in Child Health with the University of Sydney.

Dr Michelle Hooi has a special interest in paediatrics, Women’s health and family planning including Implanon insertions and removals.

Support Staff

The members of our support team are seldom seen but always busy. It is they who manage the logistics and day-to-day operations of a general practice this size.
