From a primary school teacher in Nepal to a fully RACGP-recognised Vocationally Registered (VR) GP in Australia, Dr Shrestha’s career has spanned over three continents.
After a career training as a Surgeon, and qualifying as a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow, UK) with successful completion his surgical exams, Dr Shrestha established his interest in minor surgery and skin cancer management during his early days as a General Practitioner with a Special Interest (GPwSI) in the sub-specialty. In addition to his qualification as a Surgeon in the UK, he has had specific training with the Royal College of General Practitioners (England, UK) in GP-based surgical management of skin lesions, lumps and bumps, and several other procedures, as well as further training in the management of skin cancer with the RACGP in Australia, making these services accessible to clients within the community in the General Practice setting.
Services Dr Shrestha currently provides include:
- Comprehensive full-body dermatoscopic skin checks with personalised ongoing follow-up
- Clinic-based surgical management of skin spots on the torso, limbs and specific parts of the head, face and neck, including those suspicious of being cancerous
- Surgical management of skin cysts, ingrowing hairs, and lipomas
- Surgical management of ingrowing toenails where clinically indicated
- Serial cryotherapy of skin lesions where clinically indicated
Dr Shrestha employs his sound clinical judgement based on history, examination and clinical evidence to inform his clients and address their concerns.
Continuing his love for teaching, he also holds the post of GP Clinical Supervisor for medical students from Melbourne University, which he has been committed to over the last decade.
Outside of work, Dr Shrestha enjoys writing, composing, singing and, more recently, stage-acting. He is also a keen mountain biker, navigating his way through the numerous fascinating trails in the Plenty Gorge, Candlebark Park and Westerfolds Park, amongst others!
