Use MyMedicare to Connect with Your GP

MyMedicare is a voluntary patient registration model introduced by the Australian Government in 2023 to strengthen the relationship between patients, their general practitioner (GP), general practice, and broader primary care teams. By formally registering with a preferred practice like Mernda Medical Centre, you can receive more coordinated, consistent healthcare.

The initiative facilitates continuity of care, particularly for those with chronic conditions, complex health needs, or those who visit the same practice regularly, to support better long-term health outcomes.

Why Was MyMedicare Introduced?

The Australian Government launched MyMedicare to provide more consistent and personalised health care and to encourage ongoing relationships between patients and their healthcare providers. This approach enables better care planning, follow-ups, and access to services tailored to individual health needs.

Benefits of MyMedicare for Patients

Registering with MyMedicare can provide you with a range of benefits, including:

  • Stronger relationships with your GP and care team
  • More tailored healthcare based on your ongoing health needs
  • Longer telehealth consultations with your regular GP
  • Triple bulk billing incentive for longer MBS telehealth consultations for children under 16, pensioners, and concession card holders if the consult is bulk billed
  • Greater support for people living in residential aged care
  • Better coordinated care for patients with complex or chronic conditions
